PAYING HOMAGE (February 17th, 1936 – May 18th, 2023): James Nathaniel Brown also known as Jim Brown

Mr James Nathaniel Brown also known as Jim Brown, who was dubbed a legend in sports and the community, and admired as a gifted, talented athlete as well as cultural figure as he helped to promote change, the former has died of natural causes, at the age of 87 in his home in Los Angeles. He died with his wife by his side.

Mr Brown put into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame, and he was named to the NFL’s 50th, 75th and 100th Anniversary Teams. He was also named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player on three separate occasions. He was also a valuable player in the Lacrosse league and was considered one of the greatest. He was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1984.

Mr Brown was also known for his support for Muhammad Ali in the wake of Ali’s decision to refuse the war draft. In 2016, he said in an interview on the Larry King show, two years earlier, saying that he and Ali “had the same attitude about being an American and our rights and our equal rights and being outspoken about it, and never taking a back seat to freedom, equality and justice.”

His wife, Monique, said, “To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star.” she goes on to say, “To our family he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken.”

After retiring in 1966, from sports at the age of 30, he devoted himself to acting and appeared in over 30 films.

He dedicated himself to social activism, founding the Negro Industrial and Economic Union to give loans to black entrepreneurs. He also started the Amer-I-Can programme, which aimed at giving disadvantaged children and reform gang members a chance.

As well as the good comes the bad. Jim Brown came face to face with the law several times, and was arrested half a dozen times.

Nevertheless, no matter what you thought of Mr James Nathaniel Brown who was also known as Jim Brown, he tried the best he could as a cultural leader, activist, and social icon. Mr James Nathaniel Brown aka Mr Jim Brown, rest in peace, rest in power, the Brotherhood Of The Game salutes you.
